Here’s some OG stuff just for you AROWANA LIFE readers. An episode of UC Davis’s public access TV show titled DAVISION, starring Greg, Josh and Dennis. This segment is called WAKE UP KARAOKE!!!
Davision was a show created at UC Davis during sophmore year in the summer of 2002. Their first idea for the show was to welcome their apartment complex neighbors to the neighborhood by illegally sneaking in the construction site while the buildings were still being put up. They filmed each other leaving surprise gifts for the new tenants like a self portrait, money, and a condom. After filming a cool whiffle ball game in someone’s living room, using their water-less toilets, and almost driving a tracker, the show was born. Read more...

If you are in the San Francisco area after New Years, check out this fund raiser through an organization I grew up in Chinatown called Cameron House. Cameron House is a multi-service agency serving Asian communities in San Francisco. I grew up in the Friday Night Club Program and their summer daycamp since I was a third grader. This place pretty much molded me to who I am today. All proceeds will benefit the Cameron House Social Services Program PLUS you get to enjoy a great show!

If you haven’t noticed, we’ve installed this cool count down timer for when our current President George W, ruin our government, make wars, everyone hates us, and just dumb, Bush will finally finish his 8 years in office. He has def put his mark in US history, bar none. I really hope Bush doesn’t have a son of his own that we’ll have to deal with years from now. I think every American will be glad when January 20th comes around and our new President elect Obama takes over. Read more...

YOU’RE MINE!!! Last Tuesday Arowana Films shot a online video contest for Louisiana Hot Sauce. We put the brilliant minds together and came up with a funny script. With the shortage of actors who are about to go on strike, we had to dig deep into our talent pool and use ourselves. I did have formal training in drama from the Elementary School of the Kickball but I dunno if Smokey the Bear counts. “Crackle, crackle”. But to make this video come alive, we had to find a female talent…and fast! Read more...

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! First off, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Arowana Life wishes you all the joy and cheer during this time of year. Secondly, if you are actually reading this on Christmas Day, stop surfing the internet and go hang out with family and friends…after you read our entry of course. hahaha. For you religious peeps, Christmas is known for the birth of Jesus Christ, the man himself. Hence the term Christ’s Mass aka Christmas. But for those who just like more festive celebrations, this is where Santa Claus and his reindeer’s make his rounds with presents to give to all the good kids. Lights, singing, exchanging gifts, fun for all. Its more of a Western culture thang but I think more and more countries accepted this tradition too. Read more...

Take you wonder by wonder… You’re probably wondering if I’ve lost my mind and the answer is YES but its ok. It’s the result of too much karaoking. Recently I was getting a little crazy at the karaoke bar for a birthday party. (Happy Birthday Lin) And as I was belting out my best Aladdin, it reminded me of the legendary Disney movie that has this secret subliminal message. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you are in for a treat!!! Read more...

For you guys who are in the chilly Bay Area, I have a special treat for you. My girl Ali Wong is hosting a comedy series titled HOMO FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Just by judging the name of the show, it should be awesome. She’ll be at the Punch Line Comedy Club this Monday night December 22nd brought to you by the Onion Comedy Series.
As you know, we have worked on past projects together like American Apparel and Clitorus. So it should be a treat to see Ali do her thang on stage. She’s absolutely hilarious and I kinda think if you’re female, you’ll enjoy her material even more cuz she gets into the raunchy stuff that I can laugh at but never actually experienced first hand. Its Arowana Friday BOYEEE! Every Friday we feature some work we’ve done in the past or projects we want to launch. Kinda like our own film festival. But we also talk about the making and the behind of the scenes of it. For a special treat, we got two new videos for you this Friday. About a month ago, we showcased the Pisces Project to you. Something experimental and cool since shooting fish is soooo easy to do. But to try and convey a story with them is the challenge. Here’s the first video we did. Read more...

This is something I’m not too proud of talking about since I’ve never grew up having a real tree during Christmas time. You can tell the generation gap between parents and children during this time of year. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then consider yourself lucky and “normal”. But I remember our family having a Charlie Brown “plant” to represent a tree for the holidays. It was the same plant every year until it finally died. My brother and I would always dream about having a tree in our house but American traditions like a tree, stockings, lights, all those cool things we see on TV or at my friend’s house, never existed in ours. If you guys caught Far East Movement’s ANIMAL release party online a few weeks back and became a fan, FM is having another online party. Only this time they’ll be telling the stories behind each and every track on their new album. I’m sure you can also chat online and ask them random questions too. I know I will be, FOR SURE! muhahaha.
What’s also dope is that their new single GIRLS ON THE DANCE FLOOR from the ANIMAL album is already broadcasting on the radio waves. It’s been on POWER 106 in LA on Yesi Ortiz’s “Hit or Miss“. Pretty sick huh! Read more...
