DC OR BUST Part 2
So we arrived in Denver at about 11pm and what do you know, we pull into the Ritz Carlton…wha wha! I guess after busing it for the last few nights and thousands of miles on the road, the Ritz was in order. Of course I assume since its quite the pricey lodgin, I would be bunkin with someone. The audio guy, JR, whose a music producer/band member/audio guy from Baltimore or my boy Jason perhaps. But no, a big, gigantic, king size bed room all to myself. BOO to the YAH!
We only got a few minutes to settle in because dinner was calling us. Of course dinner means bring the cameras too cuz thats what I’m here for. This was when I realized I didn’t bring enough warm clothes. Actually I didn’t bring any. haha. No gloves, no beanie, no snow boots. Surprisingly, everyone assumes Denver is cold. The mile high, snow, Colorado, but it wasn’t at all. And thats what the all the locals claim too. I was really lucky.
We hit up Rock Bottom on a Monday night. The place was packed. People spilling out. Well, actually, there was only three people in the whole place. So with us coming in, we tripled the amount of customers in there. HA! But we did interview some very interesting people and got some great footage. Its crazy and eye opening meeting people from everywhere. Or maybe the guy we interviewed just hated everything in life. But he sure didn’t hate the free drinks and food Rick bought for him.
Early call time of 8am. I say early because we got back to the hotel at about 1:30am and I had my eye on the huge bath tub in my room. I know I don’t really deserve such amenities but damn, if you were in my situation, you have to take advantage of it, right! Even if I only got five hours of sleep, it was goin to be some damn good sleep.
In the morning, we went over to Pepsico Center where the Nuggets had their shoot around. Also the Mavericks were in town so I knew I was in for a treat. So just to list some of the people I saw up close and recognized was Chauncey Billups, Bird Man, Kenyon Martin and the rest of the Nuggets. From the Mavs, I saw Dirk and J Kidd walking in too. And some old vets of Rex Chapman and Stacy Augman. Damn I’m one lucky guy.
Then we went over to the Invesco park where the Denver Broncos play. They didn’t know we were coming but this is where the Democratic National Convention was held. We tried to get in at Gate 8, Gate 5, Gate 3, and Gate 2. No luck. Then Rick got on the phone and tried and tried. We were on a time constraint cuz our next stop is Chicago. With the blizzard warning and the roads getting there, we had to leave ASAP before the snow would catch us.
Finally after an hour, BAM! WE GOT IN. We got to walk the field of the Denver Broncos stadium. Totally awesome feeling. Both to just be in there and to have accomplished what we set out to do. We got as much footage in the short amount of time they let us on the field. But damn it, so awesome.
I feel like we’re chasing Obama. All the stops he made, we’re making. All the people he spoke in front of, we’re tryin to find. It’s a chase to find Obama. Next stop, Chicago. Its where he gave his speech at Grant Park and where he lived while he was a governor there. Rumor has it, it’s ten below. I dunno if my tennis shoes will hold up.
Here’s Rick’s blog too. He’s a really great writer. Funny dude and a great guy all around. Check out the pics on that blog too. The pic with Rick interviewing Billups, YUP, THATS MY HAND BABY!!!
