DC OR BUST Part 6
And the bus keeps rollin rollin, and rollin rollin, and rollin rollin…take it will.i.am. The next few nights on the trip felt like a sports team on a road trip game. In Boston one day, take off to New York for the next game the next night, and off to DC for the finally road game. Did you ever know that John Madden doesn’t fly? He takes a bus everywhere. Whenever he announces Monday Night football games, him and his bus crew are on the road to the next city. That’s why he never goes to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. But we both are living on the road.
Anyways, we stopped in Boston for a quick trip to catch Rick’s son, Kyle, basketball game and to pickup Papa Fox who flew in from Jamaica. What Rick is doing is absolutely admirable. He’s assembling his family to journey to DC to witness HISTORY. There is def a greater feeling experiencing history with the people you love in this world. I, for better or worst, am just enjoying the ride. The bus ride that is.
A special treat happened which I will prob never ever forget. As we were picking up Kyle’s tux at Men’s Warehouse and filming the interaction, Steve, our tour manager thought if in DC, the crew were to go and film at any of the Balls and Galas with Rick, how would we dress? The nicest thing I brought with me was my wool socks and those were like seven bucks a pair. Everyone kinda looked at each other because no one knew we’d have to bring suits. So what happened, Rick graciously bought the entire crew suits, from top to bottom. Shoes, socks, pants, belt, shirt, and jacket. My very first REAL suit…one’s from Goodwill and the other I stole from Adam who bought it for $30 bucks in Vietnam don’t count. I really couldn’t believe it. I felt absolutely guilty accepting such a generous offer. But it was deemed necessary. So I was truly thankful.
Then quickly off to New York to pick up Rick’s daughter Sasha. But the crew got a special treat in New York. Not only did we get to meet one of the greatest singers in our generation, Vannessa Williams but we were also fortunate to have an amazing dinner cooked by her as well. And when I say amazing, it was top notch. It was like instead of cooking one main dish for everyone, she cooked six different main dishes along with some fixin’s. What I can remember, there was salmon and swordfish, chicken breast, cold shrimp, tacos, pigs in a blanket, some beef I think, more meat and more food. It was CRAZY GOOD! All I can say is that it felt rejuvenating eating a home cooked meal with some veggies for the gas tank (my tummy). Can someone say surreal? (Guess who her neighbor is? El Presidente Bill Clinton)
And off to DC we ALL go. A full bus load of just 12 of the 2-3 million heading to Washington DC. What can we expect? Huge crowds, chaos, security up the ying yang twins, maybe lotsa cheering, celebration? Only days will tell. I mean, this two week late blog about my journey to the inauguration. Damn Obama almost fixed the economy already. Boy, I’m a slacker. My apologies.
Here’s the video Extra put out from some of the footage we shot. Mario Lopez is cheesin it on this website. There was this better video on tv that had footage from Chicago but this one is just as good. Here is Extra’s online coverage of Rick and his journey across America. Click here.
Sorry, was too pussy to take pics at Vanessa’s but here’s a reminder of her talent. Damn, I know every word in this song.
